YOUNGSTOWN — Footprints in freshly fallen snow led from Pizza Joe's on Canfield Road to the shop's cash register, dropped near Arden Boulevard, and then all the way to Indianola Avenue and 54-year-old Jerome E. Gibson, police said. Police responded to a burglar alarm at the business around 4 a.m. Tuesday. A footprint inside the pizza shop matched the left shoe worn by Gibson, police said. The Parkview Avenue man was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering and served with an outstanding theft warrant and was expected to be arraigned today in municipal court. Police said Gibson didn't have time to open the register to get to the cash.

Early this morning, about 3:00 a.m., YPD was in foot pursuit of a person who had stolen a cash register from a west side store on Canfield Road.  The police followed the tracks in the fresh snow to Arden Blvd. and then into Mill Creek Park.  The Boardman K-9 was called in but hadn't arrived.  With the officer moving at a fast pace, you could hear that he was out of breath, the chase continued into the neighborhoods near the former Idora Park.  It wasn't much longer before an apprehension was made near Colfax  and Indianola.  The K-9 never arrived in time to help.
