Throughout the 1950's the average size of the Thanksgiving Day Vindicator averaged between 60 and 80 pages ads and all.

Think about it this way ... that is ad content that will not end up in your mailbox as "junk mail".
I'm in the process of seeing what Thanksgiving Vindicators were like in the past when the downtown area was full of big stores:

McKelvey's, Strauss Hershberg, J.C.Penny, Sears, Klines, The Central Store, Murphey's, Woolworth, Grants, Kress Etc., Etc.

Estimate

3-4 pounds of ads
only a couple ounces of newspaper

Newspapers look forward to the Thanksgiving editions for the money they make on advertizing.
Back in the day when carriers were young boys newspapers on Thanksgiving were just as thick, if not thicker since there were more large stores in town, and the paper's size was larger.
Today it's adults that deliver the papers and have cars or trucks to haul them in so they have a much easier time of it.
Just be thankful that the Vindicator doesn'tr charge more for the Thanksgiving Edition.

I feel sorry for the poor carrier who has to deliver all this junk advertising with the skimpy news section of the paper.

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE SO KIND A TO REPORT THE SIZE OF THIS YEARS THANKSGIVING EDITION OF THE VINDICATOR? IT IS BEING BILLED AS THE THICKEST OF THE YEAR, SO HOW MANY PAGES AND SECTIONS DOES THAT MEAN?
