From the descriptions given, it appears that it is a gang that is pulling all these armed robberies ... young ... black males ... dressed in black operating in the same general area of the north side and targeting YSU students.
The Chief of Police indicated after the last arrests were made that the police are aware of a gang operating in the area which helped them get the perpetrators and hopefully it will help them again, but in the meantime the YSU students have the burden of using common sense and not making themselves victims by being out so early in the morning even in groups, especially in areas where these robberies are occurring.

Once again crime and YSU are in the news when a group of YSU students were robbed around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning at a house on Fifth Avenue by five or six males.
With all this news centering around the safety of YSU students, it's no wonder that enrollment at the university is on the decline.
Youngstown's reputation is bad enough, but all these crimes against YSU students only adds to the serious concerns that folks have about attending YSU.
