CANFIELD – James L. "Jimmy" Donofrio, 64, will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his big smile, wonderful personality, extremely generous nature, always putting his family first and his passions for golf and wine making.
He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Detroit, the son of Vito and Mary (Tiberio) Donofrio and moved to the Youngstown area in 1948.
Jimmy was a 1964 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, where he excelled in golf and then went on to play golf at Miami University of Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration/Finance.
He was employed from 1971 until 1996 as Vice President of Leasing for the DeBartolo Property Management. In 1996, Jim went on to open his own company, Market St. Leasing, which represented several Real Estate Developers in the country until the present, where he was the owner and operator of the Avalon Gardens.
Jim started his golf career at the age of 6 and caddied at Mill Creek Golf Course, where he got his nickname, "Peaches," from Ange Petrella. He went on to play golf all over the United States, including Augusta National and even won a ProAm Tournament in Las Vegas.
He was a member of St. Christine Church and the Bagnolese Men's Club, where he held all positions and was past president for many terms.
Jim, along with his brother, Ron, were proud soccer coaches for over 25 years of both indoor and outdoor soccer. They started coaching in the parochial league and then with Canfield Schools, where they coached the same group of boys known as "14 Brothers" all the way until they were the Canfield High School Soccer Team.
He leaves behind to hold on to this memories, his wife, the former Rosanne Soda, whom he married April 24, 1976; a daughter, Carli Donofrio of Canfield; a son, Gianni Donofrio of Canfield; two brothers, Ron and wife Nancy Donofrio of Canfield and Anthony and wife Carol Donofrio of Lakewood; a sister, Linda and husband Rick Strong of Wadsworth; his godson, Julian Donofrio; goddaughter, Elisa Finn; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

It was the family that asked it my friend, and we should honor that request lest we or one of our family face tragedy only to have total strangers who have absolutely no first hand knowledge spread wild speculations all over the place. When the time comes that all the information is in to the satisfaction of the family and the police the news media will report on it.

Certainly there are questions that need to be answered such as why it took so long to identify Jim, and I doubt that we will ever get an answer that will satisfy everyone.

Rick raised another good point. It isn't that the river has rapids that could sweep a body along with it that far. So how did it get to where they found it?

Why?Town

The family of Mr. Donofrio asks for the rumors to stop. Everyone should respect their wishes.

FWIW, Tt just passed the message.

Rick Rowlands

Could a body have floated 120 miles down river to where it was found and not get tangled up along the way?

Donofrio's Family Asks for Rumors to Stop

That is a question yet to be answered, but according to the story, there doesn't seems to be any evidence that he was murdered. What is strange is the fact that when the body was found he didn't have any cloths on. There wasn't any clothing near the car when it was found, and all his papers and money were there, so it wasn't robbery.

We'll just have to wait till the coroner's report are made public, so please don't speculate about how he died till all the information is made public.

jay

So how did he get to that location?

Body of James Donofrio Found ... but what took so long for family and police to be notified?

Authorities said Donofrio's body was found along the Ohio River about 130 miles downstream, near the town of Clarington, in Monroe County, Ohio, which is about an hour south of Steubenville.
