Former Youngstown Clerk of Courts Rosemary Durkin has died.

Durkin, 84, served from 1975 until she retired in 1999, and was one of the area's most recognizable political figures. Durkin passed away over the weekend after a brief illness and was buried Monday morning in a private funeral service.

A public celebration of her life is expected to be held later this summer.

Among her many accomplishments, Durkin was the first woman in Mahoning County to hold a major public office. In 2010, she was named to the Mahoning County Hall of Fame.
