Then go to the YOUNG 2012 conference and you will hear plenty of people talking about the future of manufacturing in the valley.  The roundtable at M7 is all about subsidized manufacturing.

Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data.
Construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing technology. The first techniques for rapid prototyping became available in the late 1980s and were used to produce models and prototype parts. Today, they are used for a much wider range of applications and are even used to manufacture production-quality parts in relatively small numbers. Some sculptors use the technology to produce exhibitions.

Hate to break the news to everyone but this has been around for years.   I know people who sell products made on rapid prototyping machines.  So I don't know what this place is going to be doing other than giving a few people jobs and spending money.  But at least its going to be spent in Youngstown!

Members of President Barack Obama's administration are announcing details of a partnership between dozens of companies, universities and nonprofit organizations in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Its main hub in Youngstown is scheduled to launch by September.

White House National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling, Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank, Under Secretary of Defense Frank Kendall and other senior administration officials will be in the Valley Thursday for a scheduled visit of M7 Technologies, located at 1019 Ohio Works Drive.

The officials will be given a tour of the facility to kick off the event. Following their remarks, the officials will participate in a media roundtable to discuss American manufacturing.  Further details of the manufacturing hub are expected to be unveiled at that time.

The consortium will develop additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, which will affect a range of industries including defense, aerospace and automotive. The White House will give the hub $30 million and the partnering entities will add another $40 million to the pilot program, which beat out proposals from other regions in the country.

The Obama administration said the consortium is part of a plan announced in March to launch future manufacturing hubs around the country.

the big annoucement is that big brother is going give a nice chunck of change for r and d thus creating new jobs that wiil be shipped over seas for slave labor. tax payers monies thrown down the drain.
