We Need Strong Air Pollution Standards for Oil and Natural Gas Drilling

Right now, oil and gas companies are pumping millions of tons of dangerous emissions into our air. In Wyoming, small towns are choking from the smog created by oil and gas drilling. In Dallas/Fort Worth, pollution from oil and gas fields is worse than the exhaust of all the cars in some of our biggest cities. In Pennsylvania, the Marcellus boom is installing venting wells in formerly untouched forests.

We need help. That's why I applaud EPA for moving forward to issue stronger new safeguards to replace the outdated, patchy rules that now cover the industry's air pollution.

Reducing oil and gas pollution will protect our communities, create jobs, and will often pay for itself as companies stop leaks and keep natural gas in the pipeline and out of our air. We must start now.

Oil and gas pollution is not only a threat to our health, it is also disrupting our climate: the industry is one of the largest sources of global warming pollution in the country.  EPA needs to control all of these threats in these comprehensive rules.
