Images of Youngstown: Landscapes in Film and Literature

Tuesday, February 15, 7:30 p.m.

Ohio Room
Kilcawely Center
YSU Campus
Youngstown, Ohio

The decay and erasure of Youngstown's homes has been an important topic for local policy and community activism, but it's also the subject of art. Two artists with local ties have examined Youngstown's landscape, especially its housing, in recent works. Derrick "D." Jones's film 631 examines one family's history with a South Side house, providing a strong sense of the real lives and stories that belong to every abandoned home and vacant lot. Through creative non-fiction, Christopher Barzak considers the haunting beauty and inspiration of the city's neighborhoods. Each will present his work, and then discuss together and with the audience the artistic and political meanings of Youngstown's landscape. Join us for an evening of new art works and lively conversation.
