Why Noty Ohio? Oregon Gets Wind Maintenance Facility

Wind turbine maintenance and repair company Windpower Innovations, Inc., has finalized an agreement to set up its first full-service heavy-lift facility in the state of Oregon.
The company has agreed an assistance package with the state State of Oregon's Business Development Officer, Dennie Houle, and the City of Astoria Mayor, Willis L. Van Dusen.

It will see a facility set up to provide a range of support services for some of the largest wind turbines on the market, from one-megawatt machines to 5MW turbines.

The new Astoria facility will be set up in partnership with A.F. Dick Manufacturing, Inc., a machining services specialist based in nearby Knappa.

Windpower Innovations, which has its head office in Queen Creek, Arizona, said the Oregon facility would be one of several strategic locations throughout the US that would be set up to help fulfill high-volume contracts.

John Myers, the company's CEO, said the next facility would most likely be established in the Texas or New Mexico area.

Mr Myers said of the Oregon facility: "The Oregon site was chosen because of its central location, as well as the area's rail and deep water port access, which will provide national and international access to and from our facility."

The Windpower CEO said new partners AF Dick Manufacturing had wanted to get involved in the wind energy sector for some time, and would therefore be a "perfect fit" in the project.

He said: "They have the facilities and equipment we need to carry out our full range of services for the large turbine format, including repair, major overhaul of all gearboxes and the retrofitting of turbines already in service with more efficient, higher output, Permanent Magnet Technology."
