I graduated from Rayen in 1981, and we always had a Y.P.D. officer at
the school as a security guard, etc - EVEN BACK THEN.

Having the police officer at the school made us feel that the environment
was safe, and controlled.   Kids who F'd (excuse me) up were DEALT WITH,
PROMPTLY.

(1) The parent(s) of all the problem students should be required to attend the
upcoming meeting at the school.  If they do not show up then suspend - or expel
their child from the school until the problem is resolved.  If the student has assaulted
and/or injured another human being at the school they probably should not return.

(2) Declare a STATE OF MARTIAL LAW, if necessary, to SQUASH this crapp NOW.
Post SEVERAL Y.P.D. or other security staff around the building until these kids
can stop behaving like animals and start behaving like high school students.

If the kids at the school cannot or do not feel safe, it becomes difficult if not
impossible for the kids to get a decent education - and the good kids deserve
to NOT be affected by/afflicted with the bad ones.

This whole situation can be summed up with nostalgic quote from an old Star
Trek movie:

[Spock speaking...]  "Logic clearly dictates...that the needs of the many outweigh the
needs of the few - or the one... "

The needs of the other students, teachers and staff to have a SAFE and SANE environment
in which to work outweigh the needs of the gangs, the fighting, the drugs, etc. in the city's
schools.  It's gotta stop. Now.

I passed Chaney today.  There was a YPD car parked outside.

This is indeed a sad state of affairs for a once proud school.

The situation at Chaney has gotten so bad that the school will be closed on December 21 to address the problem.  All employees of the school will take part in the discussion and formulating the plan of action.

Police had to be called to Chaney High School to stop two separate fights.  Pepper spray had to be used to quell the disturbances.
