yaeda and the historical preservation committee for ytown downtown should jump on this project.

amen, brother Allan!

Even if the building is judged to be structurally unsound, the facade can be cleaned, structurally supported, and saved.  Whatever goes in its place, whether it be in two years or ten years, can incorporate the old with the new.

If the [Paramount/Liberty] theater building is still structurally sound, then it is
most likely less expensive to restore the building and re-use it, EVEN if it is not
going to be used as a theater again.

The apartment building I am working on "looked" very, VERY bad inside it when I
purchased the property - even though it is still structurally sound as
well.  My building inspector informed me that it would cost nearly half a million
dollars JUST to construct the outher brick shell for a new building the same size
at today's prices.

I am a firm believer that historic buildings should be saved, whenever it is a viable
option to do so.  The theater's location makes it an excellent place for a business -
whether a restaurant, theater, night club,  etc.

The building is trash. Go take a tour inside and it looks like a fire swept threw it. Lets demolish it and lets build a new building there....It looks like crap.

I recently finished reading the Youngstown 2010 Citywide Plan, and it stated that the building is still structurally sound.  That means there's hope that at least the building will be saved, even if it's gutted and put to some other use.

The Arts Council of Youngstown and Mahoning County is trying to form a committee to save and reuse the Paramount Theater in downtown Youngstown.  Anyone wishing to help with this project should contact the Arts Council at 330-746-2787.

This link provides some historical information about the theater as well as a vintage post card.
