Who has the closed minds on this forum?  You refuse to open your mind to even consider conservative ideas, so don't lecture me on closed minds!

If you would actually open YOUR mind to conservatism, you would find that it is a philosophy of INDIVIDUAL EMPOWERMENT.  Conservatism has respect for the rights of the individual, it believes that everyone is capable of rising to great heights in their lives.  It does not believe in punishing people who do succeed in life.

At one time this area was heavily conservative.  Those were the days of steel, when this region was overflowing with opportunity, jobs, money and optimism.  Today this area is heavily liberal, and there are no jobs, no money, no opportunity and no optimism.  Coincidence?  I think not.   Instead of taking our lives in our own hands and using what God has given us to improve our lives, we sit and wait hoping that some politician will drop a bunch of money on our heads and bring back the glory days.   Its never going to happen because every other liberal area of the country is hoping for the same thing!  So get off your ass, become a capitalist and create something of value in this community before its too late!

Oh please spare me these silly rebuttals, you neo-cons.....

We are teaching to far more better and smarter students today then when you old farts were in school.....

This country is worse off because of cruel and rude conservative policies and regulations instead of education.....

And just what crude and rude regulations would those be?

Get a clue guys....wait, you can't.... because your rudimentary education  didn't require you to be open minded and think...just required you to recite "Dick and Jane" books.

It can be argued that the more education we pay for the worse off the country gets. Our greatest growth came when schools were rudimentary.

How come for the past 200 or so years we managed to get along just nicely without having schooling before Kindergarten?  The educational system has become so inept that they are now demanding pre-K and post high school just to equal what used to be taught in K thru 12.   Dennis, if a child cannot be taught in twelve years then why not?  Children used to be able to learn what they needed to know during those 12 years.  What are students doing at school now?  Is education even a priority any more?

"Research show that 85% of a child's brain is developed by age 5, making the first five years of life critical to development, growth, and the foundation for future learning."

I don't doubt this for a minute, but why can't the parents stimulate their own child's brain development without the state spending money.

I know plenty of smart people that were under 5 years old long before any state programs for early childhood education.

Maybe the parents need to set down the crack pipe.

Dan, budget cuts alone will not balance the budget. Raising revenues will also be needed to balance the budget...

and raising revenues will allow for less cuts in the budget.

One way in dealing with budget cuts is exposing the fat within each state agency's specific line item
appropriations.

Dan Moadus

Hey Dennis, where would you cut the State's budget to deal with the $8 billion dollar shortfall?

Let's Stop Ted Strickland From Hurting Early Childhood Education

Ted Strickland's funding decreases for early childhood care and education in H.B. 1 has damaged Ohio's early childhood system and decreased access to quality care for all families with young children. The decisions Ted Strickland makes with future budgets will not only affect Ohio's families but Ohio's future as well.

Research show that 85% of a child's brain is developed by age 5, making the first five years of life critical to development, growth, and the foundation for future learning. Yet Ted Strickland's decision to decrease revenues in early childhood education will have negative impacts and more costly impacts when these children reach the K-12 system unprepared to learn. The result will be less academic achievement, higer criminal activity among low-achieving children, and eventually a less-prepared workforce.

Ted Strickland's choice to cut spending on early childhood care and education will only mean larger and more damaging costs to our families, our workforce, and our state budget to come.

Ohio is facing a substantial budget deficit next year. Ohio's revenue structure has been severely damaged by five years of tax cuts, all on Ted Strickland's watch. Ohio's budget can no longer be balanced by cuts alone, increased revenue must be part of the solution.

Ted Strickland won't raise revenues for early childhood care and education.
