I spend most of my time on the internet.  I watch TV on weekends, and only occasionally during the week. (i.e. This Old House on Thursday nights, if I'm interested in their current project, or if I've had a particularly stressful day and work and need a break.)  I listen to the radio (WYSU/NPR) while getting ready for work in the morning.  I don't read books because I'm visually impaired, and I found that I like books on CD better.  I don't read a physical newspaper for the same reason I don't read books, so I get my news online.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I watch HLN in the mornings for 30 minutes then switch to Fox and Friends for details. Maybe 45 minutes and I am done with television for the day.  I will spend anywhere from 4 to 8 hours total in a day and evening in assorted Forums and chat rooms. Hardly ever listen to the radio anymore unless I'm in the car. But I do look through the Vindy every day.  Just emailed them about a possible human interest story today.

I get all of my news during the daily radio newscast between noon and 3 pm on weekdays.  ;D

I could do without television.  Its all junk that appeals to the stupid, brainwashed masses. I watch more stuff on Netflix and Youtube these days. For comedy entertainment I just come to this forum and read the latest Irishbobcat posts.

LOL...I'm not sure how beneficial it is for the plants, but I seem to benefit from spending time with them.  They are my therapy.   ;D

We actually have a big front porch and spend a lot of time sitting out there in the evening during the summer months.  Neighbors stop by and sit and chat.  That is one of my favorite things about old houses, most have front porches.  I'm not sure why they don't build many front porches any more?  No sidewalks, no porches in the new neighborhoods.   ???

;D Nothing wrong with that { talking to your flowers }.

I read somewhere that it's not at all unusual and for some strange reason I don't pretend to understand is beneficial to the plants.

One thing though that I miss is being able to sit on the porch in a summer evening with neighbors and enjoy friendly conversation. It's not the same in chat rooms.

As fot TV, I do enjoy history shows such as the History Channel, the Science Channel and the Military Channel but beyond that I do spend a lot of time listening to my collection of old time radio shows that I downloaded from the internet.

As for books, I have a large library that just sit there unread (must be a couple of hundred books in all).

I could do without the television, radio and newapaper.  I read the news on the internet.  I also have a couple of gardening forums that I participate in on the internet.  I enjoy reading books on the weekends and visit with friends for conversation.  Most of my spare time during all but the winter months is spent outside in my garden talking to my flowers.   ;D

Unfortunately reading newspapers on line falls under internet usage.

I should have been clearer about newspapers. I should have said actual newspapers that you have delivered or pick up at a newsstand.

There's something about curling up in an easy chair with a cup of coffee and the newspaper that can't be experienced on line, especially on a Sunday morning.

I must confess for the record that I haven't bought a newspaper in years, and have no intention of doing so in the future based solely on the price.

My favorite Sunday paper was the New York Times Sunday edition, but they have priced their paper out of my budget.

I don't watch a lot of television - just my favorite shows, like "Law and Order", etc.  I watch
movies on my TV a lot more than live broadcasts

The internet would be at the top of my list, followed by listening to music (not on the radio so
much, but from my iPod), followed by conversation with friends and family, etc.

I don't read a lot of books, but I do like to read the news online - so does that count as
a substitute for newspapers?

Internet vs. Television

There's an interesting article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that leads to the question:

How much time do you spend on the Internet verses your time watching television?

For the first time, more people would do without television than the Internet

To this I would ask this question:

How much of your time is spent on:

     A The internet
     B Television
     C Radio
     D Newspapers
     E Books
     F One on one conversations
