While I agree with what Why?town says with regard to food,
shelter, and utility bills, there are still consequences when someone
chooses not to work.

They will never have the means to get a higher education, a house of their
own,  only be given the most basic of healthcare (hell it ain't that
good for those of us who are working these days) and they will have a standard
of living that is far, far blow that of the average American - basically they will
be the very incarnation of "surviving" versus "living".

Personally, I favor the work for welfare type programs - if someone is collecting
benefits because they aer having trouble finding work, then put them to work
in return for receiving their benefits.  Handicapped, disabled, children and the
elderly being excepted, of course.

Many of these entitlement programs are cutting back on benefits, welfare now
has lifetime limits, etc.  There are always consequences, to one degree or
another.

Something YTownShrimp said also rings a bell... some have gotten so used to
entitlements that they have lost any and all motivation to better themselves
and to do for themselves - sad, but true.  Kind of like wearing a cast on a
perfectly good arm for six months - the muscles in the arm will atrophy and
waste away, from non-use.

The same is true of many people who live on public assistance for long periods
of time, their motivation to do something with their life atrophies and wastes
away.

Sadly, it is not these very same people's fault.  The voting block that sways elections the most today, are the blocks of entitlements.  They have been addicted to assistance for so many generations, they will vote for whoever pays their way.  It is the same for politicians and bureaucrats, they too will do whatever it takes to keep them entitled.

Why?Town

the probelm here is that those who choose not to work do not reap the consequences of not working. they are given money for food and shelter, given discounts on utilities and other perks.

Drug dealing and murders will continue as long as our society allows the common able bodied man not to work for his subsistence.

The fact that our society "allows" anyone, for that matter, to "not work" is one of our most
basic freedoms - freedom of choice.  People choose to work, or not work - just like they
choose, or don't choose, to sell drugs or do violence unto others.

And as we all know, every choice one makes has it's consequences, be they good  or  bad...

woozle

So far the Northside is top Dawg!!!  ;D

Last night a man was shot and killed in the Broadway/Lexington area of the north side.

This is the third homicide of 2010.
