The fire dept broke through the plywood over the front entrance to get inside
and keep the house from burning... the rest of the damage you see is most likely
from house strippers and vandals.... the only real damage I saw them doing to
the house was in the attic - the firemen had to use an axe to chop holes in
the wall around the south gable in the roof, just to make sure that there was
no fire inside the wall or ceiling up there...

Pennsylvania Ave, Michigan Ave, etc were one block longer back in the days
before i-680 was dug out on the North Side...so there were homes where the
freeway trench is now....

Yale and Harvard Avenue are buried under YSU Stadium...Iona street is under
a parking lot, etc..

I wish I could find antique photos of all the mansions that stood on the land
where the university is now - they were some of the biggest and most lavish
mansions in the city... especially those that stood along Wick Avenue..

I looked at your pictures.

836 Pennsylvania is in worse shape than I remember.  Some of it, I assume, was caused by the YFD making sure there wasn't a fire in the walls.  I forgot about the fireplace in the foyer.  I still wish I could have tried to save the house, but it looks like I might have been in over my head.

From your pics of 1010 Bryson, it looks like the asbestos in the basement has been abated.  That could be a positive selling point.

I could go on and on about how great these houses were, even the "normal" ones like those on Pennsylvania and Bryson.  Just imagine what these neighborhoods might have looked like back when these houses were new.

The Mahoning County GIS site is working again, and this house's address is 836.

I agree with Westsider. When I put that in Google Maps, the pointer appears right at the house photographed at 836 Pennsylvania.

I believe that this is 836.  The Mahoning County GIS site isn't working at the moment, or I would tell you for sure.

I was going to post photos of this house on my website today, but then realized that I
don't know what the street address is for this house...

This house sits right next door (to the right of...) the lot where the latest arson fire
happened on Pennsylvania Avenue.  It is the second lot to the right of the fraternity
house...

Does anyone know what the house number is/was for this house?  Or can anyone
take a drive past the place and find out?

:)
