Tattered Flag on the South Side (photo)

Just bumping this message to the top of the list.

Sorry I didn't get back to the board.  I talked to several people about this issue including The South Ave. Business Assn., and NO ONE was willing to step onto private property.  I also thank the person who braved the bad weather and took the responsibility to remove the dishonor to our flag and our veterans.

I'm pleased to see that a gentleman from the seventh ward of Youngstown has respectfully removed the tattered flag from the pole along South Avenue. Thank you very much!

As of January 13, 2003, this flag was still on the pole.  More of the flag has now disintegrated.

I asked a veteran's official about this in early October.  He said that since it lies on personal peoperty, they could not remove it.  Someone I talked to this week suggested maybe I could approach the owner and ask to replace it with a new flag.  The property appears to be vacant, but I will try to contact the owner. Maybe the 7th Ward Coaltion or blockwatch could take on this project.  The pole is high and needs a ladder to reach the flag.  We could probably get a donated flag.

I saw this tattered flag on the South Side of Youngstown today.  Is there a local veterans' group who could replace this flag or at least remove it for proper disposal?
