My wife is a Texan of mainly Mexican decent. And we have always wondered. Why do so many Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo? I have talked to many who don't even know what it means. And even more who do not know what the 5th of May is celebrated for.
And it is celebrated here in the states more than in Mexico, in many places.

Come celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Art Youngstown, the Etruscan Press & the City of Youngstown at the B&O, this Tuesday, May 5, 2009! We are participating in the City's Cinco de Mayo Downtown Dash.  Wristbands can be purchased at the B&O Restaurant the evening of May 5th starting at 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Wristbands are $3.00 with a canned food donation & $5.00 without. Participating bars & specials included with your wristband purchase for this event are listed below:
