Block Watch and Neighborhood Association Leaders - Seventh Ward

Re: Training and Planning Seminar for Neighborhood Organizations

Dear Block Watch Leader:

The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition will host training and planning seminar for Block Watch and Neighborhood Association leaders or their designees at the Coalition offices located at 3839 Loveland Road, 2nd floor, above Directed Technologies, Monday, February 2, 2009 at 7pm Topics that will be covered include:

1. Getting the News Out: How to send out press releases about your activities and whom to contact. Chris Travers, former advertising executive and manager of local business radio station WYWR, will provide training.

2. Wean Foundation Neighborhood Success Grants: How to apply for up to five thousand dollars for your neighborhood project. 7WCC President Patricia Dougan, Phil Kidd of the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative, and members of the Wean Foundation Grantmakers Committee will explain the grant process and talk about the types of grants that have been funded in the past.

3. Fiscal agents: What they are, what they do, and why you may need one. In many cases, money cannot be granted or donated to organizations that do not have non-profit status. A fiscal agent must be used in such instances. Join us and learn about the donation of Councilman John R. Swierz to the neighborhood organizations and how to access it.

4. Moving Forward: A brainstorming session about the direction the neighborhood organizations would like to take and how to get there. Projects, potential funding, collaboration and organizing will be discussed.

Please let us know if you will attend and the number attending by calling 330-782-8206. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,
Patricia Dougan
President
Seventh Ward Citizens Coalition
