Do the people being rehired live in the city?

jay

Over the last two days, the newspaper reported the rehiring of several city employees who had taken a retirement buy out a few months ago.

Questions
Have any councilmen objected to these rehirings?

Have any citizens addressed council about this practice?

jay

I've heard that the Williams administration may hire several more of the recent retirees.

There has to be a 60 day period between the retirement and the rehire.  Time will tell.

I agree completely.  If someone has worked in the city school
system and their career has run its course - then they should NOT
be re-hired.

This goes DOUBLE for those who have taken payoffs for agreeing
to an early retirement from the system.  They've made their
money [and their "bed" - let them lay in it.]

Never!  Tell them to go home and never come back! Bunch of greedy SOBs who have made their money and are so selfish that they want to take job opportunities from younger people and make them leave the area to find work.  Leeches!

This is happening in the education system too.  A teacher or administrator retires and then is rehired at a lower wage.  As a result, many of our young education majors at YSU have to leave the area to find employment.  We should give these jobs to the next generation.  Our city needs the vitality that these youngsters will bring to the profession and to the community.

Rehiring Retirees
A story about this issue appeared in the newspaper today.

Should the city of Youngstown rehire employees who have taken the early retirement incentive?
