This was really a great idea! This is something Youngstown can really get behind to spur its economic growth. Remember, the greatest of journeys all begin with one step. This idea should be expanded, repeated next year, and promoted more.

Y'town needs to get all these items and companies (and more) listed on this website, or another Y'town website. Then direct people there through the cheapest form of advertising - public relations. The Vindicator should contribute ads beginning in September, and the local TV stations can do features telling people about the website/page where all these local products can be found.

Leann where is the museum's gift shop?  I haven't been to the museum in a while.  Where did they find space for it?

We have a wonderful gift shop here at the Arms Family Museum on Wick Avenue.

Just a sample of some local interest items:

  • Books  for a list visit http://www.mahoninghistory.org/greystonegifts.stm
  • Historic Photographs (Idora, Mill Creek, Steel Industry, Downtown, Churches, sports, hospitals, you name it, we probably have it!) These can be ordered in many sizes, or browse through a selection on hand.
  • Local interest DVD's - Idora Park, Gangsters, a biography of Warren P. Williamson (founder of WKBN), and Steel Town.  All $15.00
  • Landmark collectible plates (Original Rayen School, B&O Station, Civil War Monument, & Jones Hall) White china with black print, $10 each.
  • Ornaments with the Arms Family Museum (clear glass and white china)

We also have nostalgic toys, ornaments, jewelry, old-time radio programs on CD, postcards, Arts & Crafts decorative tiles and more!

The museum shop is open Tuesday-Sunday from 1-5pm.  I will ship items as well, give me a call! (330) 743-2589 Ask for Leann.
