House Used For Dog Fighting

This is a perfect example of why the new "pit bull" legislation won't work.  Humans set up this house for dog fighting...not the dogs.  In fact, the dog was out on the roof trying to escape.  Authorities found gun casings...drug paraphernalia and according to the tv news story a bullet proof vest that was left behing.  The people who set this up were not good law abiding citizens and responsible dog owners, they were criminals. 

Our Mayor said that the City will not set up a "pit bull task force".  The City will rely on neighbors to call and report the activity.  If you saw this story on the news last night you would have heard the neighbors that commented at the end of the story that said...Dog fights??  There are no dog fights on our street.  The citizens of Youngstown are already afraid to call and report criminal activity in their neighborhoods and this new legislation will not change that.  They will not call and report their gun packing, drug dealing neighbors about ANY of the crimes they commit.

By the way,  dog fighting was illegal before the new breed specific legislation.

A TV news report this afternoon showed the interior of a south side house used for dog fighting.  It was an otherwise vacant structure which the criminal element "took over" to use for the fights.  Try to watch the news tonight.  The story may run again.

The frightening aspect of the story was that the men from the Dog Warden's Office have been targeted for violence.  A flyer containing a picture of the Dog Warden's officers was left on their truck.  Each officer in the photo had an X over his face.  The flyer also contained gang symbols.  The officers have also received threatening phone calls at their office.

How are these officers supposed to do their job?  They will either have to be armed or have a police escort when investigating dog complaints on the south side.
