Market-Midlothian Area Housing Prices

No, this is not really a bad neighborhood. Mine is much worse in Brownlee Woods. However, it is all relative and, after all, there is a very parochial attitude here. Across Midlothian, in Youngstown, is a "bad" neighborhood. High crime, rundown homes, etc. People are afraid that the urban blight will hit the neighborhood you mentioned next because it's right there. That may or may not happen. I know I have heard of crime rates going up in that area and everyone is all afraid now. A lot of white flight goes on around here and this is another example.

You will find former Youngstowners now living in the suburbs being afraid to go into Youngstown. There are bad areas but many areas are not. Downtown has I believe, the lowest crime rate around here yet people are deathly afraid to go visit the heart of the region. Yes, it is sad looking but it is not unsafe. I love living in Youngstown. I am a single female and am sickened by the appearance of our city and the loss of good citizens but I am not afraid to live here. Many advantages.

Buying a home in the neighborhood you mentioned would be a wonderful thing. Not only are the homes beautiful but the layout of the streets and the landscaping of the area as well as the beautiful mature trees make this the ideal of where to live. In addition, you are extremely close to Mill Creek Park!

I recently (Dec 2004) moved to the Youngstown area from PA and I was very surprised by the low housing prices.  We looked at several houses near Overhill Rd, just inside Boardman Township.  The neighborhood seemed very pleasant and the houses were in good shape.  However, just about everyone we knew from the area said that would be a bad location to buy a house in.  From what I can see, it is one of the most charming neighborhoods in the county and the prices are half of what a similar house in a similar neighborhood would cost just over the line in Pennsylvania.  Could someone offer any insight?  Is there really a chance the neighborhood could rapidly deteriorate?
