This is what I've heard.  Someone volunteered to start the website and then that person left the group.  No one else knew how to access the website and then the fee wasn't paid on time.

That's a shame.  Usually you can pay for the website without getting into the site by phone, but they probably didn't have that information.

I just discovered that valley24 is owned by the Vindy and they use a django content management system so they will  have access to local events that the other websites will not have.

QuoteYAEDA, for example, wants a calendar that only list events for downtown Youngstown.

What happened to their website?

I agree that Metro Monthly is about the best and most comprehensive site and it should be the one that all the web sites should link to for a calendar of events. I know that under the Local catagory on my web site, I link directly to the Metro Monthly Calendar.

Most of the local web administrators with community sites are volunteers who have day jobs as well.
It could be a full time job to maintain a site with all the events.
Many of us burn the midnight oil maintaining these community sites  and provide the services at our own expense.
Greg and his scanner feeds are one example.

I think that all of us would like to see a centralized event database.  It would be a ENORMOUS task.
And it also requires that events actually be submitted by the venues.

The county site probably has a full time webmaster.

valley24 looks promising

The metro monthly has always been an excellent news source for local events and they are online at
http://metromonthly.net

QuoteMy intent is not to divide or pit one blog vs another, but rather help streamline traffic.

If you feel you can help, then perhaps you can volunteer your time by submitting events to the sites.
I feel most of the community's "not for profit" sites admire one another's contributions and are definitely not at odds.
Many sites online that are providing community pages for a profit do feel other sites  are in direct competition.

This site is not a blog. It was established in the mid-nineties before "blog" was even a word! LOL

PS why not submit the additional links to the other calendars online at my directory page where several are already listed.

Yes, there are many events calendars on the web.  Some groups want a calendar with events for a certain geographic area.  YAEDA, for example, wants a calendar that only list events for downtown Youngstown.

I just found this...rather cool looking site:
http://valley24.com/events/
http://valley24.com/

And the county keeps a page of free events listed:

I have been trying to visit all the blogs out there regarding Youngstown. One thing I have noticed is that everyone is doing a great job keeping people informed on community events and information. It seems that most of the forum managers know each other. My question is  - Has there been dialogue between the managers regarding a coordinated effort to have one site as a main site to go to for Entertainment information?  IMHO, if one site contained a current, accurate and comprehensive event calendar, it would make browsing for things to do alot easier.

My intent is not to divide or pit one blog vs another, but rather help streamline traffic. If something like that already is in place, by all means post it.
