As I understand it, the Mayor appoints the Chief with the concent of City Council, and those under him take tests. My copy of the city Charter is way out of date, but I'll try to find a newer version and if it's on line, post a link to it.

To be honest, I never gave it much thought, but you might try looking for the Civil Service on the web, or make a FOI request of them. The Vindicator use to publish lists, but I haven't received the paper since 2002 so I don't know if they still do or not.

Try calling the Vindicator Police Reporter or the City Hall Reporter and they may be able to help or at least lead you to the right sources.

Another possable source would be Burt DeSuza at the Vindicator.

Thanks Townstalk I thought you may know. OK is hiring by the city (both Civil service and appointed positions?) public record? What about police staffing? I know it is up to the police chief and mayor but is it public record?

Mary:

My web site has several sites that give the crime stats that you are looking for.

There is also a catagory that deals specifically with crime stats. ALL ARE VERY RELIABLE.

I have spoken with someone I trust tonight and am very upset and worried about the city (mainly the police department) by what I have been told. Before I say anything I would like to do a little research to make sure what I have been told is correct, make sure i do not slander anyone and have the correct stats to back it up. Does any one know if crime stats are listed on line? If the amount of police each year listed?  Also does anyone know if there is a correct list of records that are available to the public?  I have searched the net and have not gotten trustworthy information.
