A Pirohi Festival Could Work in Lansingville

Being of Italian descent, I would love to attend a festival that will offer another ethnic food dish instead of spagetti and meatballs. Some of us Italians would enjoy to exchange another high carb dish for another high carb dish that does not consist of spagetti sauce as its topping this festival would put Lansingville on the map.

     Several years ago we tried to start a ethnic festival and certain people opposed it.  I still think its a great idea and will assist a new effort!

We should be taking an active interest in our heritage and teaching the younger ones about their past.  

This area is famous for its ethnicity and I do believe that most everyone enjoys pirohis. This would be one festival that I would be happy to attend.

Let's make a serious effort to get this rolling.  Any suggestions on where to meet to discuss this?

P.S.  The spelling of pirohi depends on the culture or the county of origin.

   I was thinking of more like a "PRIOHI COOK OFF".  I understand that one of the smaller cities South West of Pittsburgh has had a "Priohi Cook Off" for 4 or 5 yeas now.  I though it would be a gook idea when we built our new center on Shady Run but upon further thought - that type of event would have to be at a more nutrual place and not one Priohi was sold at.  I may be just a little prejudice - but I just happen to think St. Nicholas Byzantine Pirohi Workers make THE BEST.

Should Youngstown Have A Pirohi Festival?

I'm sure the person who wore the McGruff costume at the Snoops Block Watch picnic last year would look great in our own version of Mr. Pirohi.

A Pirohi Festival would work well in the Slovak Lansingville area of the south side of Youngstown.  Churches that currently make and sell pirohi could be asked to participate.  Other Slovak and ethnic foods would be welcome.  We could have a parade, pirohi eating contest, Slovak bands and dancing.  We could crown a Pirohi Princess.
