There has been a lot of talk lately about additive manufacturing, which is the focus of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute in downtown Youngstown.

The technology is getting a lot of attention nationwide, and now people can learn more about it through an exhibit at the McDonough Museum of art at Youngstown State University. The "Reshaping Ideas: Ingenuity in 3-D Technology" exhibit includes four galleries that address the past, present and future of 3-D printing.

The show features 3-D printing technology, focusing on the additive manufacturing process, which is transforming the industry by printing items one layer at a time.

President Obama recently declared Youngstown the 3-D center for excellence because of the newly opened NAMII.

"We felt that if people are gonna really understand what it means to have this research institute in Youngstown, we needed to give them the opportunity to understand what they do. And 3-D printing technology is what they're all about," said McDonough Museum of Art Director Leslie Brothers.

Part of the exhibit is a hands on lab where the public can learn all about 3-D printing.
