70mm is the format that was used to show CinemaScope, Todd-A-O, and Cinerama. Before these three processes were introduced the theaters all used 35mm film which was used since the dawn of the motion picture industry.

Besides larger film, projectors required special lens and of course larger screens, and in the case of Cinerama three projectors, one aimed at the center of the screen, one aimed to the screens left, and one to the screens right, and as opposed to CinemaScope, a special screen that could be adjusted to show either Cinerama or CinemaScope. Todd-A-O used a CinemaScope Screen. The local downtown theaters - State, Paramount, Warner and Palace showed movies in both CinemaScope and Todd-A-O but we never had one that could show Cinerama, but then many of the Cinerama movies were also printed in CinemaScope.

Today 70mm film is the industry standard.

I see they are going to show the greatest movie ever made. (IMHO)

Hi Towntalk,

Do not understand the 70 mm question.  Please contact Yellowcreekthetre.com for your suggestion, the site is well monitored and suggestions are considered.

Question: Will "The Sound of Music" be shown in its 70mm format?

Suggestion: This organization should contact CinemaTreasures.org and provide them with the info on what they will be showing when and where.

Here's the link:

Towntalk, please visit Yellowcreektheatre.com for this years schedule.  BTW the screen is the bridge wall and is much larger than even a drive in;  also, The Sound of Music is on the schedule this summer.  Please make sure no communist follow you to YCT, we do not allow them in.

I'd love to see a classic movie at Powers.  Maybe they could work out a deal with Touch the Moon Candy Saloon, to sell vintage style candies, and people could dress up as if it were opening night in 1931, if they wanted.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

While there are movies being shown at the Cavilie they can not compare to seeing a movie on the big screen so would anyone be interested in proposing to the powers that be at Powers Auditorium a series of weekend film festivals showing the classics such as:

Gone With The Wind
Sound Of Music
Oklahoma
My Fair Lady
The Music Man

say on a Friday and Saturday night during the summer months.

There is a huge difference between seeing a movie at one of the multi-screen movie houses and seeing them on a huge screen like the Warner and Palace had.

Most of the younger generation don't really know what it was like to see a movie on a huge theater screen in 70mm format and stereo sound.
