The book, "Internal Combustion" is a must read if one wishes to understand the evolution of transportation and how we are at the crossroads of change today.  Interesting to know, electric cars were dominant around the turn of the century before internal combustion engines won the day.  Also, all the inner-city transportation including Youngstown were once all electric trolley's.  The future of the car?  CNG, compressed natural gas, the USA is now the largest producer of it, thank the Marcellus shale.  Electric cars can only have traction if and only when we increase the wattage of the grid and we can do it by coal, oil and natural gas, local energy.

The 1918 Milburn topped out at 19mph, about half the top speed of a Model T.

They claimed a range of about 60 miles per charge.

The first story on this link references Youngstown.

Thanks for the real photo Why?Town.

Wilson was a couple of years before my time but if the Secret Service saw fit to use them in the protection of the President they must have been some car.

Wonder what kind of speed they were able to get up to?

Here's an actual photograph of one of the 1918 Milburn electric coupes that President Woodrow Wilson's secret service men drove.
