Wow!

I never thought I would see any old issues of the Vindicator on Google..

I just found an article from April 20, 1929 showcasing the opening of Parkway Tower
Apartments....now I know who the architect/engineer was..

Yepp!

I always wondered if anyone would ever make a historical archive of the Vindicator
available to the masses via the Internet - looks like Google worked something out
with them.

This is a BIG win for history buffs such as ourselves...I've wanted to get historical
info on Parkway Tower for a long time and now I have the exact date that the
building opened to the public -

April 20, 1929

Parkway was one of the first modern, fireproof high-rise buildings in Youngstown.
All of the hardwood floors were layed on top of concrete slab, and the walls and
ceilings are plaster/concrete mix over steel lathe.  They built the place like a
Sherman Tank.

I heard that the building is going to be re-habbed and re-opened as student
housing.

Allan were those pictures from the Google Vindy archive? If so, how did you extract them?
