Title: For the record
Post by: Towntalk on September 23, 2010, 12:24:56 PM
This is not a quiz.

For the record, while WKBN is the oldest radio station on the air today, it was not the first radio station in Youngstown. There were three older stations that had short lives, but set the stage for Youngstown becoming a major radio market.

WMC – 1922 – 1923 Wayne Shaffer

WMBW – The Youngstown Broadcasting Company, Inc.  647-9 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio - 1927

WDBF – Robert G. Phillips 254 W. Federal Street Youngstown, Ohio – 1923 - 1925

WAAY – Yarling Rayner Music Co. (Same address as WDBF.) – 1922 - 1923

WKBN - 1926

1400
WKBN Youngstown OH Radio Electric Service Co.
WMBW Youngstown OH Youngstown Broadcasting Co.

Because there were no such things as commercials in those early days, only WKBN was able to survive.

As to WMC we know little more than who the owner was and the fact that he worked for the Youngstown Vindicator at the time.
