Is there a saw mill located in this area?
The wood shown in your photo has not only been cut down, it has
been run through a saw mill and shaped into boards.
This is not raw timber freshly cut - it is processed lumber.
It's difficult to see for sure in your photo, but it also appears that some
of the lumber has been "banded" with plastic or metal shipping strap, to
hold the stacks together.
I agree with Allan. With the stacks neatly piled up and banded could it be that someone is planning to build something near there? Also there are no signs in the picture that would indicate that they were processed on site such as saw dust or other residue suggesting that they were deliberately put there for some use.
There are such things as portable sawmills that come in on a trailer and cuts up the logs on site. That is most likely what is going on here.
I have run trains over the crossing in the foreground, shoving boxcars of lumber to Plaza Lumber circa 1993-96.
