Title: West Side Car Break-Ins
Post by: jay on June 12, 2010, 09:03:30 PM
Several cars have had their windows smashed over the last few days on the west side of Youngstown.  Once the window is smashed, the thieves removed items that were on the seats of the car.

Do you happen to know what area on the West Side? This happened in the St. Brendan's area in March. They got quite a few cars. Also got some in April. Some of the cars were parked in driveways and not on the street. Wish they would catch who is doing this.

No car alarms blaring?  Nobody heard glass breaking?  Come on its not exactly out in the country, someone had to see or hear something.

From what I understand during the car break ins in March- they did not break windows in cars with alarms.  And when they did break the window (drivers side) they must have been very quiet. There were several in my neighborhood and no one that I know of heard a thing. I know my dog did not bark. And she usually barks at everything.  They were not right next to my house but several houses up and several house down from me. I believe in March they got about 15 cars in the area. The police told us not to keep anything of value in your car and leave it unlocked. I realize the police cannot be everywhere all the time. However, I was not real happy with the just leave the car unlocked thing.

Leaving the car unlocked is an old trick often used by convertable owners to keep the top from getting sliced to gain entry. Unfortunately, many thieves don't take the time to check if doors are unlocked and slice through the top anyway. I've even heard of someone getting their passenger window broken out by a thief when their driver window was already down. :(
