Post by: Towntalk on April 23, 2010, 10:46:36 PM
Downtown Youngstown Will See Increased Patrols

Hopefully some of those officers will be on foot.

Many of us are old enough to reember beat officers who patrolled downtown on foot.

Maybe the increased police presence downtown will help solve the problem of unruly
patrons leaving the bar(s) downtown - the patrols are supposed to be present
at closing time.

that's what we're hoping, though we haven't had major issues like the Mayor said....we just want to be proactive and establish a presence before this up coming summer season. there are a lot of things planned for this summer, you can check out the calendar here: http://247330.blogspot.com/ (http://247330.blogspot.com/)

The other obvious "up side" of the extra patrols downtown is that more people will start
to patronize downtown businesses after hours - because they will feel safe.

This, in turn, could attract more new businesses downtown.
