Starting in March Ohio Valley Waste Service will collect the trash in Youngstown. The company is owned by Vogel in PA. My neighbor first heard of this from our trash collector Thursday morning and the information was "buried" in this Vindy article on Friday about Mahoning County commissioners:

With the bid being $8.70 per household per month will our rates go down?
That's a nice, easy way to divert $100,000 a year from "recycling, litter-law enforcement, landfill inspections, emergency spill management and landfill haul road maintenance" to the general fund.
Way to go Mahoning County!!!
The current home sanitation rate in Youngstown is $13.75 per month. With the new contract, a rate reduction is in order.
That 8.70 per month does not include tonnage fees or the animal carcass removals.
The rate on the bill we received today is $14.75. That is 70% over >:( the $8.70 the city will be paying to the collector. The residents need a breakdown of where the extra dollars are going to.
