The facade of the State Theater looks awful ... ugly ... When are they going to spruce it up?
The art is great ... too bad they didn't put it in front of the facade to hide that monstrosity.
pen37 art ytown did receive permission to hang the art work by the state theater. if it wasn't for scum that cannot keep their sticky fingers to themselves the public art works will still be hanging on the northside. the art works were not hanging up more then a month five out of the thirty-eight of the panels were stolen. one panel was given back only when a concern citizen witnessed the theft that he took pics of the person and the car's license's plate. the ghetto scum had the panel hanging up in her livingroom when the police came knocking at her door to retrieve it to give it back to art ytown committee. the scumbag told the police that she thought the panels were free to take. the trashbag said she was going to send a check to buy the panel and art ytown is still waiting for the check until then the panel is hanging up besides the state theater. >:(
Tear the damn building down! Saving the facade looks ridiculous. Keep dreaming about the past, but nothing can make that random facade to look good.
I'm glad to hear they got one of the pieces back. It's possible that someone really might have thought the artworks were free to the public. I have a coworker who had to take a class about owning a home in order to qualify for a mortgage. If people don't know how to own a home and pay a mortgage payment every month, I wouldn't be surprised.
As far as the State Theatre facade is concerned, I hope that the YBI utilizes the facade as some sort of entrance into their new building that will hopefully be coming in the next couple years. (and hopefully, that new building will fill in the gap between the State's facade and the Wells Building's facade) At the very least, they should find a little money to clean it up, and do something with the entrance level when they start their next project. Despite what some think, that facade is still an asset to the streetscape - it just needs a little love.
The old State Theater Facade could be made to look much better simply by
cleaning the masonry with a pressure washer and some mild solvent to remove
dirt, soot, etc from the masonry. The result would be visually striking.
The gap between the facade and the Wells building could be filled cheaply by
the erection of a false one that looks like a real building - from the street side.
Hollywood does it all the time when making movies - both indoors and out.
If they can simulate entire towns in this fashion then the City of Youngstown
could certainly simulate the front of one narrow building.

The best way to solve a problem is to try to understand it from all points of view.
The subs are going to laugh at the city no matter what we do. Reasonable people, no matter where they live, will understand that other people stole/took these artworks, and that the city had nothing to do with it.
I'm glad that old State Theater facade was saved... it makes me think of the comments
someone made when the mansion on Park Avenue was torched by an arsonist.
The historic buildings that remain downtown are part of the urban fabric of the city,
kind of like the teeth in her smile, and every time we lose one of them it only serves
to put another gap in her smile.
Once the gap between the State Theater facade and the Wells Building has been
filled - whether by a new building, a false facade, etc it won't be apparent
to passers-by that there is no longer a theater behind it.
In the mean time, it's still better to look at than another empty, muddy lot.

westsider i wish i had your belief system when comes to the subs. the subs dwellers never think its their own residents that comes into ytown and causes the plight, the crime and the rotten image. the subs' residents come into the city make their mess and go back to their cozy homes in the subs.

You figured it out. The residents of the suburbs travel to youngstown to commit crimes. They do this to keep the crime rates lower where they live.
