Some type of work is being performed at this church on Wood Street.
this picture is st. columba catheral's bell tower. rumour has it the bishop wants to downsize the operation of the ytown diocese. bishop murray wants to sell the cathedral and its surrounding property to ysu. the other rumour is move the entire diocese operation around the st. patrick's church on the lower southside to stabilize that neighborhood. these are the rumours that i have been hearing in recent months. bloggers keep your ear to the ground with this topic/rumour.
The Diocese of Youngstown needs to downsize just as the city itself needs to downsize. As long as the primary Diocesan operations stay within the city limits (and I'm sure they will, given that Bishop Murry is very "pro-Yo" and recently moved into the city himself) I have no problem with the pursuit a sale of St. Columba. I'm not sure what YSU would do with it though. Perhaps another recital hall for Dana students? The one in Bliss Hall is sorely lacking and more suited for rehearsals than performances.
