If there's going to be a Memorial Day Parade in Youngstown, let me know when and where it will take place.

I don't know about Youngstown but Veterans are invited to march through the 2 cemeteries in Lowellville with the American Legion Post 247. We will have a ceremony at the Holy Rosary Cemetery with guest speaker from The Veterans Service Commission And a brief ceremony at the Lowellville(Poland Township) Cemetery followed by raising the colors at the Village hall and then snacks will be available upstairs.

It would be a sad commentary if Youngstown didn't have some sort of commeration. Since our city offices will be closed forcing us to pay them for not working, the very least they could do is have some sort of commeration on the Square and at Oak Hill Cemetary.

Maybe all of the Youngstown vets died or moved away.

Perhaps our city fathers don't think honoring those men and women who paid the supreme sacrifice for all of us are worth honoring.

But seriously isn't it the responsability of the service organizations to make arrangements for the Memorial Day celebration. Where's the VFW; DAV; AMVETS and the American Legion? I don't believe for a second there are no veterans left in Youngstown.

Towntalk, you are right on target. so many of the organizations do parades in the 'burbs.  If they had come to us asking for a parade or services our downtown events director would have made it happen.

Memorial Day parades are generally hosted by veterans groups not the government.

Vindy Quote:
Youngstown: The Struthers Marching Band will lead the parade from the Midlothian Boulevard entrance of Lake Park Cemetery, through an avenue of American Flags to the soldiers section at 11 a.m. where Commander Donna Burford will open ceremonies. Judge Robert Milich, retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, will be the speaker. He serves on the Air Force Academy Board and in Veterans Affairs of Youngstown. There will also be taps and a 21 gun salute. Parking is available.

The Youngstown Memorial Day event listed in the newspaper is actually taking place in a Boardman cemetery.
