NOW BEGINS THE FUN
[/b]
As you know, the city is in the process of looking for a site for a new Justice Center that would house the Municipal Court and Police Station, and it was suggested that it should be located on Fifth Avenue just outside the perimeters of downtown Youngstown.
The legislation authorizing the Justice Center calls for it to be located "west of Fifth Avenue, east of Belmont Avenue, South of Rayen Avenue and North of Wood Street."
When it was first proposed several years ago, then Mayor Pat Ungaro wanted it on Federal Street on the Kress Building site because of it's nearness to City Hall.
Now, Mayor McKelvey is objecting to the Fifth Avenue location and wants it on Federal Street at the Masters site which has been talked about for a parking deck.
It makes sense to have the Justice Center close to the County Jail since the city does not have it's own jail.
McKelvey in support of his argument said: "That structure (the Masters block) will be torn down in about a month" and until a etter use is found, a parking lot will occupy this site.
Lets all hope that this doesn't develop into another Convocation Center controversy, and the next Mayor can act in the best interest of the people of Youngstown.
Here is an idea.
Knock down the Paramoun theatre and the building next to that and place it there next to Imbibe and across from the new courthouse and MC Childrens Service's Building
