Title: National Night Out - Create Your Own Event - Tuesday, August 5
Post by: jay on July 30, 2008, 08:07:46 AM
FYI - No city-wide National Night Out event will take place in Youngstown this year.  It is up to each block watch and neighborhood to plan its own event.

From the National Night Out website

What is National Night Out?
It's America's Night Out Against Crime!

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:
block parties
cookouts
visits from local police and sheriff departments
parades
exhibits
flashlight walks
contests
and youth programs.

NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

The Garden District block watch is having a flashlight walk that night, and a picnic the following Sunday.

(Incidentally, this is the first year I've heard of this organization, or related events. (or lack of))

This is a photo from the city-wide Night Out event in 2006.  It was held at Homestead Park on the south side of Youngstown.
