Title: West Side problems
Post by: Towntalk on July 14, 2008, 11:46:01 AM
Talked about on the Dan Rivers Show this morning.

What’s going on on the West Side especially around the Belle Vista overpass? Persons are throwing stones at cars smashing windows. And what’s with Borts Pool?

I heard some women had a fight near Borts Pool a few days ago.

The women was 18, she had a razor blade and was trying to fight two 14 year old girls in the parking lot. The two girls were treated with minor cuts at St. E's and the girl is being charged. The thing that gets me is that the mother of the 18 year old was in the parking lot witnessing all of this.  It was on the Vindicator a few days ago.

The copper water pipe scavenging has plagued the city for decades.  A friend of mine is rehabbing a
historic home on the North Side and has chosen to install plastic water pipe - of no value to house
strippers, and therefore of no interest to them.

Of course, they would have to break into the vacant property anyways in order to find out that
the pipes are all made of plastic.....hmmmmmphhh

Went to Salsita's noticed that the two glass doors in entrance were boarded up, and asked the cashier as I entered, advised glass was broken during a break-in.  Never heard any news in the media on this break-in?

The saying in news rooms is "If it doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead." If the paper or TV news rooms reported every B&E, car theft, shoplifting or fight that occures, there wouldn't be room for anything else.

Editors and News Directors have to budget time and space ... the average radio or TV news story averages a minute or two, and while newspapers have more space in the news section of the paper, even that has to be rationed.

A solution could be a daily police log that lists all the calls the police have over a 24 hour basis like they use to, but that just gives the bare minimum of information ... no details. The Vindicator use to publish all the Police and Fire calls in a box on page 2, but that was dropped years ago.
