J. Massy Rhind was born in Scotland in 1860. He immigrated to the United States (date unknown) where he became one of America's great sculptors. The Butler Institute of American Art possesses 8 of his works: Apollo (1919); Authority (1922); Bust of Mr. Butler (1921); Commemorative Tablet (1921); Indian Scout (1921); Menerva (1919); Theodore Roosevelt (1920) and Wisdom (1922)
[The dates are when Butler acquired the work.]
Mr. Rhind passed away in 1936.
