Title: Harvest Festivals
Post by: jay on July 06, 2007, 09:57:15 PM
Just an idea

We should explore having various harvest festivals throughout the summer in downtown Youngstown.
June - strawberry festival
July - raspberry festival, zucchini festival, or tomato festival
August - corn festival, squash festival
September - potato festival, pumpkin festival

Citizens would be encouraged to grow these crops in their home gardens.  A contest could be held for the best garden, the best or largest vegetables, the best recipe.   Each of our ethnic populations would be asked to make vegetable dishes representing their ethnic heritage.

For Example - The Capital Garlic Festival

The Capital Garlic Festival will take place at the North Market in Columbus on Sunday, August 19.  Garlic growers, farmers, and other vendors will be there to celebrate GARLIC.  More than 4,000 people attended the event last year.
