A friend claims that the Lansingville parade will return to the south side of Youngstown this year. Now all we need is to know is the date and time of the event. In previous years, the parade was followed by a neighborhood block picnic.
It is going to be Saturday, June 30th. Need to check with the president of the Lansingville Block Watch for the time. I believe they are encouraging participants and spectators. I participated a few years ago and it's a lot of fun!
This forum should have a vehicle in the parade. :)
The Lansingville Parade will be held on Saturday, June 30, starting at 1:00 p.m.
From: "A Most Reliable Source" :-X
The "SIXTH LANSINGVILLE BLOCKWATCH FOURTH OF JULY PARADE" will be in Momory of
Larry McCaffrey who was the first "Captain" of All Blockwatches in our area of the South Side and was an Outstanding Member of The Lansingville Blockwatch !
It will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday June 30th 2007 - - - Yea I know - A 4th of July Parade in June - well all I can say is we always have it on the Saturday before the 4th - - - AND - - - This IS LANSINGVILLE we are talking about ::). You know the ol saying "Any excuse for a parade"
The parade will start at St. Matthias School parking lot go West on Cornell to Zedikar then to East Indinola East to Taft then North to Murry then East to Adams School parking lot where there will be a GATHERING of Lansingville-o-neeans and friends 8)
Participation is encouraged ESPECIALLY if it is connected to Lansingville, the 7th Ward or even Youngstown or Mahoning County in general. Further information can be easily obtained at kenneyjoe330@aol.com OR on this post ! ! !
Does the Lansingville Parade allow bicycles to take part? I know a few south side block watch members who are in the process of purchasing new patrol bikes.
How about walking groups carrying banners?
I am certain that the Lansingville Prade Committee is open to 'B' groups as well as "Z" groups. "B" groups meaning Bikes (moterized or not) and "BANNER" groups - provided the "BANNER" group promotes the interest of Lansingville and it's citizens. We have a group who are going to pass out flyers concerning an up coming Free Clinic at Bethlehem Luthern Church on Midlothian at Sunset. We may even have ACTION people involved. We may even have a horse or two in the parade - UNFORTUNATLY - they are not from Lansingville - but who doesn't like a hourse in a parade can look the other way - just watch where you step ;)
Jay - call me for more info if needed or helpful to the cause. I am not online often but will try to "come aboard" more often :)
A GROUP from this site would be most welcome ! ! !
Thanks to KennyJoe, I now have the info regarding participating in the Lansingville Parade.
Thank you very much!
I have a request for the forum members.
We may or may not have a vehicle, but either way, we will need banners.
If we have a vehicle then 2 banners will be needed - one for each side.
I am clueless about where to go to get the materials to make a vinyl banner that can be carried easily by several people or can be mounted to the side of a vehicle.
If anyone has information about this, please let me know.
I realize we can have them made but there are limited funds and not too much time.
If you would like to participate and march in the parade with us, all are welcome to join in.
Only a few will be able to ride if we have a vehicle but others can walk alongside and perhaps we can spell each other if anyone gets tired.
Please consider coming out for the parade.
Everyone assembles 12:30ish at the St. Matthias School parking lot, but earlier arrivals are welcome to meet and greet. June 30th
I am very sorry if I gave people the impression that BANNERS are a necessity for the parade :'( that is NOT the case ! ! ! I just would think that "a group" walking or riding would want to be recognized and a banner would be a good way of doing it. 8) A simple sign would work just as well - posterboard should work - if it is a little damp out put an umbrella over yourself and it ;) if you are walking. We will have the parade and rain or shine is in the Hands of The Lord - I know some great puddles to splash in if it does rain a bit - if it has been a while since you have splashed in a good puddle - I suggest the next time it rains to find one and JUMP AROUND IN IT - GREAT FUN and FREE ::) and if it does rain you will be in practice ;D
Hi KennyJoe,
You didn't give people the impression we need a banner. It would be nice if we could advertise the group with the website address on it and maybe bring business cards to pass out so people remember the address.
I liked your email suggestion about a plastic tablecloth on a pole... what would be good to paint it with?
Does anyone have a suggestion for paint would remain flexible and wouldn't crack off the vinyl if the banner was rolled up in storage?
FM
Maybe spraypaint on the vinyl tablecloth. Since its made up of small dots rather than brushstrokes, it might adhere better. You could get some stencils and put some color on first then spray the letters on last. Just a thought.
Sounds like a good way to go. Thanks Greg.
Hi everyone - I am glad everyone is as excited as I am about the parade. Just hope it is every bit as exciting as you imagine 8) Rather than spray paint on the table cloth (can be really messy to do) how about TAPE - like black electrical tape - I have seen bright yellow tape also. It would be a little labor intensive but cheap and well worth the effort - the paint will eventually crack and perhaps rub off here and there rolling it up and in storage. Tape will last longer and should be a "snap" to follow simple block print :) No matter what - it will be nice to meet each other in person. It will be here and gone before ya know it BUT the pleasure of meeting you will remain for years to come I am sure. ;)
That's a good idea too. Thank you.
I hope I am not the only person to go!
Please let me know if you plan to go folks.
Is it OK to hand out candy to the kids watching the parade? Also, is it appropriate to hand out fliers to the adults?
I plan to bring bags of candy and hopefully business cards with the MV address on them.
KennyJoe said candy is suggested.
I do need to know if anyone else plans to come.
If I am solo, I am not going to try to carry a long banner myself. I will bring a decorated flea market cart instead... so I can display a sign on all sides and carry handouts at the same time.
So folks please let me know if any of you plan to come.
The Forum now has a float but it won't be in the Lansingville Parade. :)
But we may have a surprise at the parade - stay tuned!
Several candidates for Youngstown city council planned to be in the parade.
They have now been ruled off the ballot.
Thanks to forum member Greg, (yfdgricker), we have a VEHICLE for the parade ----
and it is not just ANY Vehicle. It is a vintage firetruck called "Ember"
You can view Ember here

He says there is room for several people to ride.
Thank you very much Greg.
Hope to see you all there.
I have to be out of town this Saturday morning, but I hope to be back in time to watch the parade. A friend who is just nuts about parades is coming to Youngstown for a family visit and also wants to attend.
Here are some photos from the parade and gathering afterwards. We had a great time!
It was a very nice event!
BIG Thank yous to the folks that host it.
More photos are also in the MV gallery.
