Title: 2.5% porperty tax reduction
Post by: nikkiware2 on May 07, 2007, 10:45:21 AM
A recent examination of homes on my street via the mahoning county auditors website showed more than 11 property ownwers recieving  the 2.5% tax reduction that is supposed to be given to owner occupied homes. Many of these showed the owners mailing address to be different from the property address, but when I spoke to Alise in the auditors office I was told they did not have enough manpower to check the accuarcy of this and it was up to the owner to report that the did not live there. She said she would change the ones I called to her. It made may think that this could be a significant amount of money lost. This is not what I wanted to hear before the sales tax renewal. Maybe the commissioners need to really take a look at this and see where other problems are that they could be taking a loss at. Also rental property seems to be # 1 for this.

And if you want to make sure they NEVER have the money to correct this problem just vote down the tax levy.

I really want them to be more accountable with the money they have and need to collect instead of showing me that they are careless, and could care less.
