Title: City Council Gets Holiday Spirit
Post by: jay on December 26, 2006, 07:41:10 PM
It's been almost one week since Youngstown City Council balked at funding the fireworks display for First Night Youngstown.  Today, at a special meeting, city council voted to supply the $5,000 for the midnight fireworks display.  The vote was unanimous.  Councilman Rapovy did not attend the meeting.

It was obvious that this crisis was the result of miscommunication.  One councilman stated that the original request for funds was sent to Councilman Gillam in May 2006.  Somehow that request was not shared with the other councilmen.  As most people know, it is customary for groups and individuals seeking council's support to work through the councilman in whose ward the project is located.  First Night Youngstown takes place in the first ward, Councilman Gillam's ward.

Very pleased to see that City Council decided to supply the monies need for the fireworks.  It's a wonderful way to ring in the New Year and hopefully the community will pull together and work for the good of all.
