I was looking to see if I could find a list that showed where Mill Creek Park ranked among other Urban Parks in the US. I found this list at http://www.nrpa.org/content/default.aspx?documentId=2300
If your scrolling down the list looking for Youngstown, OH, you won't find it. I emailed Mr. Harnik at the address given and I am awaiting his reply to see if we can get Mill Creek Park on the list. According to the Mill Creek's website, they are approx 2,600 acres which would put it at #23 on the list just squeaking past Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve in San Diego, Calif. at 2,572 acres.
I'll keep you all informed when I head back from Mr. Harnik. If you happen to find another list, post it here!
Greg

Because the park was "given" to the county, do you think this may be a loophole that prevents it from being on this list?
I got an email back and they are looking at parks which reside entirely within city limits. Only about 800 acres are in the city proper, the remaining 1800 acres are spread out through Boardman township.
Here is their reply...
Hi Greg,
My name is Coleen Gentles and I work with Peter Harnik in the Center for City Park Excellence. I spoke with Carol Potter from Metro Parks and found that 802 acres of the 2,684 acres for Mill Creek Park are actually within the city limits of Youngstown, Ohio. The rest of the acreage lies within Boardman Township. Our "100 Largest City Parks" report only lists the acreages for the parks that are within city limits, even if part of the park extends into the county. If this is not correct, please let me know. We plan to update our report next week. Thanks for your inquiry.
Sincerely,
Coleen Gentles

According to her email, we should still be at 68, right?
Correct. Hopefully when they update the list, Mill Creek Park should be #68.
