Title: Beautify Downtown Youngstown - Donate To CityScape Today!
Post by: jay on March 21, 2016, 08:54:49 AM
The annual downtown flower planting day is approaching.  This year hundreds of volunteers will plant thousands of flowers on Saturday, June 4.  To make this event a great success, CityScape is seeking contributions from citizens and area businesses.

To donate, send your check (made out to Youngstown CityScape) to

FYI, downtown Pittsburgh already has some flowers in pots and soon flowers will be everywhere downtown.  I understand that Ytown is a little colder then Pittsburgh but waiting until June 4 to put flowers in pots, mulching is stretching it.  Those pots are going to sit empty with a bunch of dirt (and cig butts, cans, food wrappers) in them.  Can't Streetscape occur in late April/early May?

Usually the last day to expect frost in Youngstown is the second week of May.  I guess the planners just want to play it safe and not risk losing the plants.

Also, flower plants raised in this area are not blooming yet.  When blooming flowers are planted in June, the pots will be colorful on day one.
