Title: A Wonderful Idea
Post by: Towntalk on May 30, 2015, 08:18:07 AM
Here is a wonderful idea whose time has come.
StreetScape should consider seeking sponsors to fund park benches that would be located throughout the downtown area with the sponsor's name on said bench. Said benches could be located next to locations where StreetScape plants flowers each year. Also at certain places along Federal Street StreetScape could erect Bulletin Boards where events posters could be placed free of charge and the local downtown restaurants that have events could place posters. To protect said posters, plexaglass doors would be part of said bulletin boards.
Now aren't these wonderful ideas ... there could even be a contest to pick the style of bulletin boards that would be sponsored by all the downtown businesses, and the grand prize could be gift certificates to all the downtown restaurants.
Oh happy day that these wonderful ideas could be suggested.

TT - There are a few park like benches on Champion Street along the parking lots behind the Realty and Towers buildings, and in front of the Towers Building.  These park benches just blend into the landscape.  There are also several metal benches on Central Square and along Federal.

There is no common place for putting posters.  Several of the restaurants have chalkboard stands on the sidewalks to announce events, but if you don't walk by the place, or friend them on facebook, you don't know what is happening.  The large events, like Italian Fest, put large banners on Central Square.

Thanks for the info. What made me think of it was after talking to my cousin the other day. That's what they are doing back home. They are blessed by a beautiful river front landscape on both sides of the river in the downtown area, and they have been making the most of it. The river is wide and there are a number of boat launches along it.. As for the rest of the downtown area. It is quite full of all sorts of businesses especially retail stores, two large banks, and a first run movie theater.
