In observance of Fair Trade Week, The Villa Shoppe at Villa Maria Community Center will donate 20 percent of all sales from Monday through Saturday to the Haiti ministry. Free Fair Trade coffee and chocolate samples will be offered throughout the week.Fair Trade is an organized movement aimed at empowering women, families and communities in developing countries to self-sustainability. The main focus on exports from developing countries had been coffee, tea and cocoa. It has expanded to include clothing, furniture, home decor, jewelry, toys, handbags, accessories and many more products. Artisans produce their items by recycling other products. The Villa Shoppe is an expression of the ministry of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, which chooses vendors whose programs, services and products contribute positively to the lives of women and children and provide artisans a fair wage, safe work environment and humane work schedule. The Villa Shoppe offers items including purses, wallets, jewelry, scarves, baskets, hand-carved boxes, organic coffee and tea, chocolates, mugs, angels, books, rosaries, cards and more. For information, call 724-964-8920, ext. 3249, send email to villashoppe@ humilityofmary.org or visit humilityofmary.org.
