Title: Theater News
Post by: Towntalk on February 21, 2015, 05:31:30 PM
I wish to give a very joyful shoutout to Ken Roe of Cinema Treasures for helping build the listing of the many theaters that have come and gone in Youngstown over the years ... so far the list cataloges 49 theaters going as far back as 1900.

As of today ... February 26, 2015 a total of 50 Youngstown movie theaters have been identified and can be seen at the following web site.

There were also about four other theaters that were Vaudeville and Burlesque theaters that did not show movies so were not included in the Cinema Treasures listing, there also were three movie theaters in the 1960's and '70's that were strictly pornographic theaters that have not been posted due to the nature of their programs.

Super,  I talked with one of the guys that converted the building from the theater into what is now Ross's Market....And lots of the old timers told me about sneaking in or getting caught misbehaving in one way or another....

Never went to a theater until after I was in the military with the exception of one midnight premiere I believe in Bordman Plaza; and a few drive-ins. As a teen I was way too busy for movies. Spent most my weekend nights at the Rollercade....

The number of movie theaters that have come and gone in Youngstown has reached 56 over the years, and have been documented on Cinema Treasures.

The list only covers theaters that showed movies, but there were also several others that didn't show movies but were live theaters such as Stambaugh Auditorium and the Youngstown Playhouse and theVictorian Players Theater.
